In mid-September 2026, Phoenix Software hosted a series of technology and careers workshops for school students across Scotland, welcoming over 75 participants from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Fife, and Alloa. The events took place between 15th and 18th September, with sessions held at St Mungo's Academy in Glasgow, Microsoftโs Edinburgh offices in partnership with Barnardoโs, St Columba's RC High School in Fife, and Alloa Academy joined by Lornshill Academy.
The programme focused on providing young people aged 14 to 18 with practical experience and insights into the digital economy. Activities included workshops on artificial intelligence using Microsoft Copilot, digital accessibility tools, laptop repair exercises, and discussions about career opportunities and challenges in technology.
Students had the chance to engage directly with professionals from Phoenix Software and Microsoft, who highlighted the variety of roles available in the tech sector beyond traditional technical positions. The initiative aimed to raise aspirations, build confidence, and demonstrate that successful careers in technology can be accessed through multiple educational and professional routes.
This outreach forms part of Phoenix Software's ongoing social value programme, which supports young peopleโs education and skills development across the UK. In the previous academic year, Phoenix reached nearly 9,000 students through various activities including STEM events, careers talks, and employability workshops.
Jennifer Clewley, ESG Lead at Phoenix Software, emphasised the importance of showcasing diverse pathways into technology careers and the value of skills such as creativity and teamwork alongside technical expertise. Clare Metcalfe, Managing Director of Phoenix Software, highlighted the role of diversity in driving innovation within the industry and expressed hope that the events would inspire students to pursue rewarding careers in technology regardless of their background.
Partners involved in the programme, including Developing the Young Workforce Forth Valley and Barnardoโs Scotland, praised the workshops for their engaging and practical approach, noting the positive impact on young people's understanding of the world of work and digital skills.
