EDINBURGH, Scotland: Worldwide Cancer Research has announced the appointment of Laura Brady as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking an important new chapter for the charity as it looks to expand its global impact and strengthen its position within the international cancer research community.
As the only UK charity dedicated exclusively to funding early-stage discovery cancer research for all types of cancer, anywhere in the world, Worldwide Cancer Research continues to drive forward its mission of creating a future where no life is cut short by cancer.
Commenting on her appointment, Laura Brady said,
“I feel incredibly fortunate to be stepping into the role of CEO at such a pivotal moment for Worldwide Cancer Research. This organisation has a certain magic, and that magic lies in its people – our Curestarters.Â
“Our talented team, supporters, researchers and partners across the world are united by a determination to see a day where no life is cut short by cancer. We know that discovery research has the power to transform lives, but breakthroughs still aren’t reaching people with cancer quickly enough.
“This is a strategic inflection point for the charity. Over the coming months, we’ll focus on building momentum, unlocking fresh energy and increasing our income, influence and impact to help accelerate high potential research into treatments for people with cancer.”
Having previously served as Director of Marketing and Fundraising, Laura spearheaded the strategic direction and bold rebrand that established the organisation on the global stage.
Today, Worldwide Cancer Research operates as a globally connected discovery research funder, working in partnership to accelerate progress through collaboration, influence, and innovation and to date, the charity has invested more than ÂŁ220 million in pioneering, early-stage research across more than 30 countries.
To unlock this next phase of growth, Laura’s vision moves away from traditional models of public engagement and over the coming months, the organisation will roll out a re-energised strategy designed to scale its global impact, increase momentum and accelerate breakthroughs for people affected by cancer.
Central to this next chapter the strategy will focus heavily on diversifying how supporters and partners can engage with the cause, encouraging a collaborative approach where people can drive an impact not only through financial support, but also by lending their voices, advocacy and energy to the mission.
The charity’s Board of Trustees, chaired by Sue Hunter, has also been significantly strengthened with the addition of several new board members who will inject fresh momentum into the charity’s operations.

Sue Hunter, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Worldwide Cancer Research, said,
“We are absolutely thrilled to appoint Laura as our new Chief Executive Officer. She is a visionary, inspiring leader who has already proven the immense impact of strategic, commercially minded marketing by completely transforming our brand.
“We are no longer content with just punching above our weight. We have the leadership, the board, the team and the community to firmly establish ourselves as global leaders in discovery research funding and accelerate progress for patients worldwide.”
Worldwide Cancer Research’s ambitious next-phase organisational strategy will be formally unveiled in the coming months. Laura’s first weeks as CEO will include a comprehensive listening program with staff, researchers, supporters, and strategic partners to refine the charity’s long-term vision.
