Opening on 10 July and running until 4 October, the exhibition, titled โIn Our Nature: The World Through The Eyes Of Young People In Kinship Careโ, showcases the work of five young creatives.
Following an intensive 12-week multimedia programme developing their skills in photography and filmmaking, the exhibition at the Museum of Edinburgh presents the results of their work.
The young people, who are currently living in a kinship care placement, have each selected five of their photographs to display. The exhibition will also include a film, made with Media Education, which explores their relationship with nature and photography.
Kinship care is when a child is raised by an extended family member or close family friend because their parents are unable to care for them. It provides an important sound of stability, helping children maintain connections with their family, identity, and community.
Councillor Margaret Graham, Culture and Communities Convener, said:
โThis exhibition highlights the creativity and talent of these young people. Their photography and film offer a thoughtful insight into their perspectives and experiences, and Iโm pleased their work can now be shared with the wider public.
โProjects like this give young people the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and express themselves creatively, while also raising awareness of the important role kinship care plays in supporting children and families.โ
