Alba Fury Debuts with ‘Out of Time’: Edinburgh’s New Post-Punk Sound

Published:

EDINBURGH-BASED POST-PUNK BAND, Alba Fury, will release their debut single ‘Out of Time’ on the 15th November 2024.

The track has been described as gritty and driving, held down by an energetic rhythm section, and complemented by atmospheric, textured guitar tones. In one sense, the track has a dystopian feel, and in the other, it has pop sensibilities, particularly in the vocal melodies and songwriting.

In keeping with the band’s DIY ethos, the single was produced largely by the band themselves. It was recorded in part, in Aberdeen, with billboard-charting producer Ryan (RYZY) MacKay tracking the drums and bass guitar. The guitar and vocals were recorded by the band in Edinburgh, with mixing and post-production handled by the band’s bass player (and songwriter-producer), Jamie Thomson. The track was mastered by Philip Marsden in Oxford.

Jamie Thomson, the band’s songwriter and bass player, says:

‘Out of Time is a song about mortality. It’s about realising that our time on earth is limited, and the only thing we can do is accept it. It’s a pretty bleak subject, but I think it’s also quite life-affirming.

The song is an exploration of impermanence and the conflicting feelings that go with it. I guess it’s also a way of trying to connect with people who have similar contradictory feelings about what it means to make the most of your life.’

The release comes two weeks before the band’s debut gig at the Windsor Hotel in Kirkcaldy, where they are supporting Scottish artist DOVV, alongside a line-up that includes Vida, Robin Ashcroft, Luke Porter, and Voodoo Pilots.

Band Biography

Alba Fury is a four-piece alt-indie/post-punk band based in Leith, Edinburgh. They came together in early 2023 after former West Lothian bandmates Jamie Thomson and Michael Ward (co-founder of La Sierra Casa songwriting camp with The View’s Kyle Falconer) decided to develop some demo ideas together. They cite Fontaines DC, Sprints, Young Fathers, and Joy Division as influences.

The band members are Michael Ward (lead vocals), Sam Greig (guitar), Jamie Thomson (bass & backing vocals), and Fraser Plumb (drums). They look forward to bringing their energetic performance to audiences across Scotland and further afield in the coming months.
